1. Many sellers received text messages related to taxes.
Starting at the end of October, sellers in Anhui, Shanxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, and other regions began receiving text messages from local tax authorities.
The message states: "Your declared sales revenue for the third quarter of this year is lower than the amount reported by companies operating in the e-commerce sector to the tax authorities. Please review and confirm. If an error is found in your declaration, kindly correct it as soon as possible to avoid penalties for late payment after the tax period ends (October 27)."
2. The new rules come into effect on October 1.
This nationwide tightening of tax audits in the cross-border e-commerce sector is driven by the "Regulations on the Provision of Tax Information by Internet Platform Enterprises," adopted by the State Council in June 2025. According to these rules, starting from October 1, regardless of whether the platform is registered in China or abroad, any entity providing services that generate profits from online transactions to operators based in China is required to submit quarterly reports to tax authorities detailing the identity and income of operators working on its platform.
3. The trend toward compliance with tax legislation is irreversible.
Meanwhile, two tax-related text messages highlight the fact that the cross-border e-commerce industry is bidding farewell to its "breakneck growth," while the trend toward tax compliance is irreversible.
